We have been providing the best care to children and adolescents for the past few decades. The department of Pediatrics & Neonatology is manned by very experienced and competent specialists and energetic and efficient residents. The full fledged department of Pediatrics runs General and Specialist OPDs daily except Sundays. The vaccination clinic is attached to the department which also is open on all days except Sundays and stocks most available vaccines. Special clinics which will start functioning soon include a high risk clinic, a seizure clinic and an asthma and allergy clinic to cater to these groups of patients.

Emergency services are available 24 hrs with specialists and residents. The patients are well looked after as indoor services are available round the clock. The department is a tertiary centre with patients being referred from far flung areas of the state.

The department has a pediatric intensive care unit attached to it for care of critically ill patients.Pediatric and neonatal surgeries are being done regularly by the department of surgery with the support of this department.

This department has been at the forefront of neonatal services which complement the obstetric department. The neonatal intensive care unit also accepts numerous babies born in other hospitals of Shillong and beyond who are referred for Level III care and for neonatal surgery. The neonatal unit is supported by the well baby and the soon to open high risk clinics.

Since 2007, the department has been successfully running the DNB course in Pediatrics. This department fulfils the criterion for this course and has been accreditated to the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi. This is a post graduate course in Pediatrics and each year, the department is allotted one post MBBS candidate and one post diploma candidate to pursue this course.

This department is at the forefront in organizing continuing medical education programmes and training courses in the north east. Neonatal resuscitation programmes, Basic & Advanced life support programme, Golden Hour Emergency Management course are some courses which are regularly organized by the department. Faculty & speakers of national and international repute have delivered lectures and conducted CMEs and workshops in this hospital in recent years. All faculty of the department are NRP and PALS trained.
